2020 Plan, Pivot, Slow Down, Adjust
This year was a rollercoaster… ringing in the new decade was exciting and refreshing for my family and I, and I'm sure a lot of you as well. It felt like a time to reset and start a new year with big plans for the future. Everything changed when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. At first, it was all so confusing to me; what was happening... Thinking it would just be a two-week stint was hopeful as we enter month 10 of this weird new way of life. It was hard in the beginning, and I won't lie still is; at times! It was hard not to feel down about how to go about the future, so I had to make a game plan.
Plan
Figuring out how you would live our day to day life was an obstacle! The kids not going to school in person, Brian's restaurants shutting down, and daily life becoming unrecognizable. We had to plan how to stay happy and healthy in this new way of life! We decided to find new things for the kids to do, Brian was figuring out how to work from home as a chef, and I was figuring out how our family would bond through these trying times.
Pivot
Once we made some plans, we started acting on them. Like most families, we began taking A LOT of walks, which was a fun way to get outside as a family! The kids took up surfing as a new hobby to do that was COVID friendly, and all took to it so quickly. I have loved watching them enjoy being together and surfing multiple times a week to stay active! It is essential to keep your kids and yourself busy during this time, even though it seems complicated. The kids now beg Brian and I to bring them surfing during the week! Brian decided to start Chef in a Box, which has been such a fun journey to watch evolve. He does virtual cooking classes, and I love watching him work from home, and I don't mind the delicious food either.
Slow Down
This year has given me so much time to slow down and reconnect with my passions; photography, food, design which led to this blog! I have loved sharing my life with the world! It has also allowed me to document life in a new way, think creatively, and collaborate with new people all over!
This year has also given my family the time to slow down and appreciate each other, especially Brian and I. I have loved spending more time with them sharing small moments together like longer mornings, take-out dinners, and family dance parties in the kitchen. Slowing down has given me the chance to appreciate what's important in life.
Adjust
I think we can all agree that this year has been an adjustment, changing how we do almost everything in life from going to the store, sending the kids to sports, and working! What I like to remember is that it doesn't adjust how we LOVE! Tell the people around you that you love them and tell them often...the power of words is amazing. As we enter 2021, I think we will all continue to plan, pivot, slow down, and adjust. This year has made me realize how unpredictable life is, so talk to the people around you about what excites you, what scares you, and what you're planning for 2021! Cheers!
