Del Mar's Opening Day 2022 Inspired by: Van De Vort
The race is on! This is one of my favorite days of the year in San Diego. A fashionista's paradise for must-see couture, fascinators, hats, and everything fashion.

Del Mar Racetrack's Opening Day is the perfect opportunity to rock your preppy style, whether you're attending the fairground festivities or celebrating at home. The hat and dress combination is what really makes the event stand out in terms of style. While the event is famous for its extravagant hats, the combination of hat and dress really makes a statement. For Derby day, combinations can vary from eye-catching patterns and statement hats to bold colors and neutral shades that balance dramatic headpieces. Whatever the combination, the goal is to enjoy your style at its most festive, daytime peak.
Whether you're looking for floral designs, bold color statements, or craveable lace, here's my collection of 'golden' Derby dresses for some weekend inspiration! My search for the perfect dress was a success. With the help of Van De Vort, I landed the PERFECT racetrack look for Opening Day.
The Dress: The most common dress style for Opening Days is a brightly colored, mid-length dress
The Weather: Opening day is usually a hot day in San Diego, so wear something light and flowy, but bring a light shawl in case of an unexpected ocean breeze.
The Hat: If you want to dress up like a derby girl, either wear fascinators or a big sun hat (don't forget to add feathers).
The Shoes: The most common footwear for women is heels or wedges. However, since the event will last all day, make sure the shoes are comfortable.
The Shop: Van de Vort has 2 locations: I at One Paseo and the other is at the Del Mar Flower Hill Mall.
My Golden Tip: there's plenty of fun "after parties" near the racetrack if you want to maximize the festivities! One of my favorite after parties is at L'Auberge!

It features a triangle top neckline, one side slit, and no zipper or adjustable straps, but does have a bit of stretch. It is running slightly Small. It also comes in yellow and blue! We will be getting one in every color ;)
